Half Marathon

Labor Day weekend is the annual Disneyland Half Marathon. I've run it three times in the past, but never with my Dad. In fact, I’ve never run ANY half marathon with my father - even though we've planned a few over the years. Last October, because I was pregnant with Boden, my wonderful Husband took my place and ran with my Dad for the Denver Rock and Roll half marathon. But this year, we were motivated – nay obligated (due to signing up early) to run together. For a brief moment in time we were also both trained… that is until a fateful Sunday afternoon two weeks before the race. While playing co-ed outdoor soccer, as stopper I went in against an opposing male player. He slid into my heel as I cleared the ball, sending me hurdling to the ground screaming. I thought it was broken for a moment. Then I regained my composure and hobbled off the field. After the swelling went down, Steve and I decided a trip to the urgent care would be helpful. They found two fractures! But a few days later after meeting with an orthopedist, she said she thought the fractures were probably old. (Hear that? I’m so awesome I break my foot and don’t even know it). We decided I could run on it. Yay! (Plus this allowed me to have an excuse for being so slow!)

The race ended up being a blast! We felt good, and stayed by the tried and true Godlewski mantra of “Start off slow – then tapper”. I swear one of these days I’ll run a fast race – but this was NOT one of those days. Not that I feel any regret. Heck, just making it to the starting line means we already beat all the people sleeping in. Plus the Disneyland atmosphere is incredible. Pictures being taken with characters, music, rides, the fantastic Anaheim highschools that come out to cheer. What a great way to spend time with my Dad before his 62nd birthday! And Boden was the best super-fan ever (sorry Andrea)! He was on Steve’s shoulders at various points during the race. I would see him before I saw Steve and my Mom. And let me tell you – there is nothing better than seeing the surprise on your 7 month old babies face when you run up and say “Hi Buddy” (followed by confusion as I run off slowly into the distance).

Who is in for next year?

Baby Date

Boden and I have been in California for the week. Taking some time to relax with the grandparents (although I am working from here). Boden even got in baby date #2 with Maya (who is a week younger). So cute! More to come on our trip - but I had to post the date photos.
