World Cup Fever

Just like most of the world, we caught some world cup fever this summer. Zaki brought the boys the two most adorable US Mens Soccer team kits, so they could cheer our favorite team in style. Thanks Zaki! We watched as many games as we could, and Boden loved learning the rules and about all the different countries that were playing.

Sunflower Farms

In early summer, my parents came out to visit us. It was a cold and rainy day that we all went to Sunflower farms. We fed the sheep and goats, and met Obama the Llama and realized that Milo's love for animals went far beyond just Delilah - he followed a cat around trying to pet and love it. We had a great visit, and my Dad even helped us install a new vanity sink in our main level guest bathroom.

catching up - Fourth of July

This blog is many things to me; a written gratitude for all the little things in life, something I can share with most of our family that live states away from us, as well as a photo album keepsake when I print these out each year for our own little family (so I don't have to worry about scrap-booking or additional photo albums).

As time speeds up with age, I feel like it also slims down - like that cliche "like sands through the hour glass". So as I rush into 2015, and realize just how quickly time got away from me this year, I'm trying to catch up on our wonderful summer and fall. So below is the first of quite a few catch up posts.

Fourth of July 2014

On the recommendation of our friends from our Nanny-share days (they have two boys the same ages as ours) we all headed up to Gold Hill, just a few miles up the mountain from Boulder. And now, a brief history of Gold Hill:

Originally a mining camp, it was the site of the first major discovery of gold during the 1859 Colorado Gold Rush and remained an important mining camp throughout the late 19th century, with a population approaching 1500 at its height, before falling into decline. It has been revived somewhat in recent years as a quiet isolated haven, with no paved streets, but easily accessed by dirt roads. The town contains numerous historic wooden structures, some restored in recent years, as well decaying ruins from its mining heyday. It has a small museum and two-room schoolhouse, the Gold Hill School, which since 1873 has been the oldest continuously operating public school in Colorado.

We are so glad we drove up. It was just our speed - with a little parade in town, wonderful food, and a bluegrass live band. We enjoy the festivities and were still able to get back home for a nap before heading to Folsom Field at CU for the fireworks.

Hold your Horses...

I know, I know, its been - like SEASONS since i've posted anything. I apologize, but don't fret, there will be more to come because,... well, we've been super busy and have some fun adventures to share. So check back in a few days and there will be more updates. In the meantime here are some "a day in the life of"snapshots.

School Photos

The boy's first official school photo day was about a month ago - finally just got a few of the photos. Pretty adorable if I do say so myself. I love that the siblings got to take some pictures together. However, they did cost an arm and a leg for digital versions, so alas, my scans aren't as great as I'd like, but I wanted to share how quickly they are growing.

Growing up so fast

Playing in the backyard on Sunday

Note the sunscreen semi-rubbed in, and the sand on his lips (yes, he was tasting the sand and laughing)

This is how we roll...

Buffalo Wild Wings on a Saturday Night. We're at that "hard to eat out in public" stage with Milo... we're working on it, but might as well enjoy the casual dining at 4:30pm while we can.

Work Trip

A few weeks ago, I had to travel to Plano, TX for a whole week for my new job. Not only was it the first time away from the kids for more than a night, but it was Milo's first time to totally rely on Daddy! Sadly, Milo ended up getting Strep that Monday and Steve had to stay home from work for 2 3 days to care for him. But it was great in the end. Milo and Daddy have turned a corner in their relationship. I missed everyone immensely, and owe my wonderful husband a debt of gratitude, but all-in-all it was a good week for the Fezlers.

Racing

I signed up for another Half Marathon, the former Boulder Backroads. Its a beautiful course on mostly dirt roads. I didn't train as well as I should have, and it was a very hot day (this I kept telling myself) as I woke up with a scratchy sore throat, but I was looking forward to the run and the scenery. I actually made a little list in my head of things I was noticing. My accomplishments of the day. Ran 13.1 Miles. Passed a miniature pony, was passed by ZZ Top (one of them anyway). But my funny little list took a tragic turn. A runner had collapsed about 400 feet from the finish line - and unfortunately, I and many other runners had to run by a woman getting chest compressions as her friends looked on. Surreal and very tragic I was a little shaken up as I drove home.

As the day wore on I (slight propensity for hypochondria) kept asking Steve if I "felt hot". I just knew I had a fever, and ... then suddenly, I just realized why my throat hurt. I drove myself to urgent care and within the hour was diagnosed with Strep throat. (for the second time this year, mind you). The perils of toddlers. So, I felt even better about my half marathon that morning. Hey, I didn't die (too soon? too soon?) AND, I ran with strep.

On a lighter note, my friend Patty talked me into running the Bolder Boulder with her. Its one of the largest road races in the world. Its fantastic! We had a great time, and it was so fun to run with a friend, in a light hearted event.

Fantastic May

Warming their bodies in the sun (photo by Steve!)
Colorado in May is near perfection. Sure, it snowed on Mother's Day, but in general, the days are warm and crisp and the evenings are cool. We have been playing in our backyard most weekends, and enjoying riding bikes to our local breweries, finishing up our soccer season and organizing play dates with some of Boden's best buds.

I call this... Blue Pool, Naked Babies

We even had a Sushi dinner date as our Daycare watches the kids on Friday nights

Super

Tis the season of 3 year old birthdays, and the popularity of Super Heros is evident in the themes. Boden loves dressing up like an Incredible and celebrating with his friends.

Easter

I finally got the photos off my camera from Easter and Alexa's visit. Clearly, we love change in the spring. Last year it was moving, and Steve graduating. This year, Milo went to full time daycare and I start a new job. So, I'm sorry these photos and stories took so long to write down. Alexa came out for a few days before Easter, and we all had a wonderful time visiting and playing with the kids.

Without further adieu...
