Cracker!

I know it doesn't sound like much, but he really knows what it is, and for a few days woke in the middle of the night requesting a cracker for mid-night snack. Here is the first day really saying it, from Feb 19th.

He has since started saying "uh-oh!" and "hot".

Daycare

Boden and Thomas "high-5" after their naps
A new year for the Fezlers also brought new changes to our child care situation. Our amazing nanny from the nanny-share, Kaitlin, gave her notice in December so she could go back to school. Although we were sad to see her go, it seemed like Boden was ready for a little more structure and some new experiences with other children, and Kaitlin was ready for bigger and better things. After interviewing some other nannies, and exploring our options, we decided that a full time daycare would be the best fit for the upcoming year.

But don’t worry. Boden and Eli still get to hang out at music class on Saturdays. And equally hard was not having Sita come to our house once a week (but we’re trying to get her to babysit when possible, and we hang out with her and Kate when we can). The nanny share was so amazing for us and for Boden. He survived the first year without any major illnesses or ear infections, and the other family’s home felt like an extension of ours. We loved our time with the nannyshare and the other family, but are now excited for the new, and even closer to our home, daycare!

Boden’s new daycare is incredible. Here are some pictures of Boden’s first month! Some items of note: His room, of 1 year olds is called the Dew Drops. He sits at a table to eat lunch with his other friends, he puts toys away, he is down to one nap a day (on a cot, without a pacifier), and he gets to try new things like painting, playing with sensory items, playing outside with the Hurricanes (2-3 year olds), and celebrating his likes and dislikes on a full size cut out of himself. We adore the teachers, and everyone involved in the school. Another big plus was that his buddy Thomas goes to the school, so he already had a friend there!

Making some turns

Sitting at the top of Corona Bowl
After a season hiatus from snow sports due to the pregnancy/ birth of Boden - I finally made it up to a mountain. We ended up going to our local ski hill - Eldora. Which, depending on the year or day can be amazing (as it was on Saturday) - or a little icy (it tends to get windy). We lucked out this year, Eldora had a better base then even the larger resorts, and had just gotten a few new inches the morning we headed up. Another plus - Eldora is only 30 min from Boulder!

We were super excited to go too because Boden's most favorite person, his nanny Sita had a free Saturday and was able to come over to play. I've never seen him so excited as when she showed up. He practically shooed us out the door so they could get down to being silly together!

Riding down the mountain was just like riding a bike. It came back right away, and making some fresh turns felt SICK!

Although it certainly is more challenging to get up to the mountains with a little one, its nice to know they're waiting for us. Not to mention Eldora has a pretty good ski school and beginners mountain - you know, when Boden is ready to tear it up next year!

One year at a glance

Its amazing how quickly a year can pass, and how much a baby can grow. Boden's stats at a year are pretty much the same he's been the whole time in terms of percentages. He weighs 20 lbs, and is in the 25th% for weight and 50th% for height.

He's super funny (and has a fantastic, if not slightly slapstick sense of humor), cracking up constantly and always testing our limits. He says "Hi, Mama, Dada, Lilah, water (wa wa), book, No, night- night". He can use sign language to say "more" (which often means still hungry, thirsty etc), "all done", "dog", "bye", "kisses". We're learning the words "patience", and "please".

He was officially walking at 10 months - and climbing, jumping, diving... He loves to dance, and swing, and eat (this kid is going to eat us out of house and home by the teen years). Sometimes he goes out the dog door to check on Lilah - or to see how long until we notice he's in the garage. He'll usually just peak his head back in and say "hi", and shake his head no (because, he's pretty confident that although he's not supposed to go out the dog door, its pretty dang funny when he does).

He has 8 teeth (four on the bottom, four on top) - and is getting a molar up top.

And every day he gets a little bigger, and a little less like a baby. Which is both spectacular and heartbreaking at the same time.

Twelve Month Photo

Time flies! The final in our first year photo series.

ONE!

We did it - We made it a whole year - all of us - alive and well.

Boden's First Birthday was a blast!

Grammie and Poppi flew out from California to celebrate, and we had a few close friends and family stop by to celebrate the big day. Here are a few of our favorite photos!

Boden's buddy Eli drives him around in his sweet new ride.

toys from Uncle Brian arrived!

I think I LOVE cake!

Yay for Grammie and Poppi

Boden woke up to his amazing birthday fort

Christmas (again)!

Presents arrived from Grammie and Poppi!
I’m so terribly embarrassed how far behind the blog I’ve gotten. I just have to suck up my ego, and post totally unedited photos and stories so we can make it back into the present.

Speaking of PRESENTS (see how I transitioned there?), Boden’s very first Christmas was a huge success, and at the same time an utter failure for our garage (I think we may have to move just to accommodate the ever masses of stuff). Thank you to all the friends and family who made Boden’s Christmas so fun. He loved to tear the wrapping from gifts – and sometimes even play with the gifts themselves.

Christmas Morning with his new toothbrush!
Our Christmas holiday started on Christmas Eve, Eve – Brenda and Marc arrived from California and we picked them up bright and early for our trek to Abuelo Steve and Nancy’s place. We spent the morning and afternoon opening gifts, climbing stairs (a favorite past time of Boden), and eating delicious and amazing food from Nancy. Brenda and Marc gave us a super fun and non competitive game (there have been past issues with Stratego and the Fezler siblings), and we played that in the afternoon while Boden had a nap. We left the house with a new pirate dog rocking horse ship, the great board game, and a whole set of BBQ tools, tricks and flavorings.

Christmas Eve and New Toys already
From Nancy’s house we drove over to Carla and Sue’s where a gourmet dinner awaited us. But, more importantly, so did the signature cocktail – Pear Martini’s with fresh blue cheese and pear slices. Delilah also waited for us – she got to play with Cousin Zola all day and was exhausted and happy to see us come back for her. Alexa and her fiancĂ© Elliott were there as well and very eager to get some time with Boden. We watched a fantastic slideshow of the trip to Hawaii that Brenda and Marc took, and some photos from their recent wedding photography. As the evening wore on we headed back to Alexa’s house and promptly all fell asleep (except for Boden, who thought that since he was in the same room as Mom and Dad should have a party!)

Construction Fork
Christmas Eve morning, was just like Christmas Morning to Boden. After a delicious breakfast of blueberry pancakes we all opened gifts – Boden got so many fun things. Highlights include: a construction set dining set (fork lift…), a tshirt from Carla and Sue that says “Question Authority”, some amazing Puzzles from Nona, and even Zaki stopped by with a neat work station. Thanks to all the Santa’s and Elves that made Boden’s Christmas enjoyable!

Exhausting Holiday
We drove home that night so that we could have Christmas morning at our house. Sipping coffee and opening gifts was a delight, and by mid-morning the rest of the family arrived so that we could go to Christmas Mass and have a late brunch. What a wonderful holiday – and even with the snow we all survived!

Please excuse the lack of photos/ or other people in the photos - I didn't take many pictures so we could enjoy the company!
