Don't Eat The Brown Snow

I spent this weekend up in Beaver Creek and Vail to celebrate Steve’s birthday with some of our closest friends. We originally made the plans weeks ago and got a great deal on a hotel since it was the end of the ski season. We all assumed the snow would be terrible, but we could enjoy some riding and relaxing. Boy did Mother Nature surprise us. Some of the best snow the mountains have seen all year fell the week leading up to our trip. We managed to have a sick powder day with over 15 inches of fresh snow on Saturday.

Fresh powder, but brown snow? Its amazing how miraculous the world is. The fresh snow was dirt red as it fell... apparently a dust storm in the desert kicked up particles of dust into the atmosphere that traveled hundreds of miles to fall in the Colorado high country. It only took us half the day to over hear a conversation and realize why the piles of fresh snow were an odd color. We enjoyed an amazing vacation like weekend and unheard of conditions for the beginning of April. I think I might need a new powder board next year. The knee deep powder pushed and pulled you in every direction. As Steve recommended, I tried to ride like a kangaroo.
