Wedding Weekend

March was filled with big events for the Fezler's. Steve's sister Brenda got married in the Sequoia National Forest in California. It was Boden's first plane trip, and long car ride ( about 6 hrs to account for nursing stops), and his first Wedding (the first of many to come this year).

We decided to fly directly into Orange County from Denver, since flying to Fresno was both time, and cost prohibitive. The beauty of our plan was that we got to visit a little of both sides of the family and get a free rental car (thanks so much Mom and Dad!) Plus, that way we also ensured a lunchtime stop at In and Out during our road trip - some hot tub time - and some time to recoup between travel and all the events of the weekend.

Boden was fantastic. He was awake the entire flight, and just looked around and took it all in. On Thursday, Boden got to meet his Great Grandparent Brocketts, and Great Grandma Helen. Boden is the first Great Grandchild on the Godlewski side of the family. Great Auntie Susie also stopped by - as well as Boden's Uncle Brian and soon to be Auntie Meghan. Brian was a natural with Boden - they were best friends immediately. I think Boden knows where many of his future birthday presents will be coming from.

Early Friday Morning we drove up past Bakersfield to the Sequoia national forest. It was beautiful, and I had forgotten how much farmland still remained in California. Sadly, all the orange groves reminded me of what Irvine (my childhood town) looked like (now its just houses and shopping centers). The county road changed into a windy mountain road, and up past a beautiful rushing creek was our lodge. Steve, Boden and I got our own private cabin on the hillside (rustic)!

The rehearsal dinner was so much fun. Boden was again an amazing baby. Just letting everyone coo over his handsomeness. He got to meet his Great Grandparents Oliver and Marge Fezler, and all the cousins that flew in from all over (even Sweden). Steve and I had a blast just enjoying the wine, and family. Obviously both Big Steve (Grandpa) and Alexa (Grandma) had a blast showing off their Grandson, and their Beautiful soon to be married daughter.

Unfortunately, the rain came in on Saturday! But I believe rain is good luck at weddings? Steve was a groomsman and I was a reader at the wedding, and I was a little nervous how Boden would do (what if he had a breakdown when we were both away?).... as I was about to read - he started fussing. Thank goodness for the Bottle. The only faux pas was a massive baby fart near the end of the ceremony. But I think Marc's grandparents were the only ones to hear it. Ha ha! Marc and Brenda had a wonderful ceremony - with special personal touches that made it memorable.

And then - the reception. A fantastic dinner and dancing event! Brenda and Marc did a fantastic dance, a tango? It was so good (it reminded me of the dance in True Lies). My favorite though was the Mother/Son dance. Boden was a perfect gentleman.

What a fun weekend- a travel success - and we wish Marc and Brenda the very best. Although everything took quite a bit longer, Steve and I are realizing that Boden hasn't kept us from enjoying anything!

Cousins!

We had a great visit last week with my cousins Aaron, Cherry and their kids Jasper and Eliza along with my Cousin Kate. Eliza kept wanting to hold Boden (so cute)!

Nanny?

Boden is officially 6 weeks old today. Which also means that I'm exactly half way through my maternity leave. (Noooooo!)

I suppose that means we have to get serious about what we're going to do for daycare. Do you think Delilah is up for the challenge? Currently we're looking for a nanny to come in during the week to help out (since I work from home). But this whole process is a bit overwhelming. Although I've had a few discussions with other Mom's about a Nanny share, nothing has worked out yet. Wish us luck on our search.

I totally welcome any suggestions/ ideas. So far I'm part of a yahoo group (Boulder Rockin' Mom's) which is an excellent forum. And will be researching care.com and Craig's list. Ahhh, this kid is so much work already!

Stats and Firsts...

Now, I realize a majority of the blog for Boden will be made up of firsts... but here are a few recent developments in the life of our new little baby.

Yesterday we had our one month checkup to see how he was doing. Boden is now 9 lbs 11 oz (is it true he'll sleep through the night at 10 lbs?) He's pretty much right in the middle as far as percentiles for little boys his age. He's also losing his hair - and appears to be growing in more blonde. He looks more like his Daddy every day!

Boden caught and got over his first cold. We call him "snorty" because when he's hungry he makes little snorty noises like a pig. I'll have to post video soon (I will, I promise!)... but the cold exacerbated the problem. It was partially adorable, and partially sounded like he was choking to death. Thankfully the cold appears to have subsided. Although, Steve is currently at the walk in clinic with a sinus infection.

Boden also got his first immunization. He took it like a champ, with only a moment or so of crying and then fell promptly asleep. The needle was so big! But he didn't seem to mind.

We've been getting out hiking, walking, and trying to jog a little. Soccer starts next weekend, and I know I'm in for a world of hurt the first few weeks. Wow, I'm really out of running shape! Wish me luck, and remind me to stretch! (Steve is out for the first few weeks with a stretched MCL in his knee. Yipes!)
